Rolf Art is pleased to announce its participation in the upcoming edition of ARCOmadrid 2025 – Spain’s International Contemporary Art Fair – which will take place from March 5 to 9, 2025, at Ifema, Madrid, Spain.
With a dual presence at the fair, Rolf Art presents:
At the General Program, Rolf Art’s proposal explores the Amazon from a biocentric and biopolitical perspective, showcasing how Latin American artists, in collaboration with Indigenous communities, understand and represent this territory, examining both local history and foreign perceptions. The project brings together four remarkable Latin American visual artists: José Alejandro Restrepo (1959, Colombia) – a key figure in Latin American video art – presents his unpublished work “La Apoteosis del Indio Amazónico” (2025) in dialogue with a careful selection of hand-intervened engravings from his historical series “América Equinoxial” (1991-1996); Roberto Huarcaya (1959, Peru) – a central figure in contemporary Peruvian photography – collaborates for the first time with Native artist and activist Rember Yahuarcani (1985, Peru). Both artists participated in the recent 2024 Venice Biennale, and they now present a hand-intervened photogram from the series Amazogramas (2025); Marcelo Brodsky (1954, Argentina) – an internationally renowned visual artist and human rights activist – features his latest works, big scale hand-intervened photographs stemming from his acclaimed collaboration with Fernando Bryce, “Territorios” (2022); María José Arjona (1973, Colombia) -one of the most remarkable contemporary performance artist from Colombia- presents “Other possible forests” (2021-2022) exploring Guaviare´s listening heritage through photo-performance; MAPA TEATRO (1983, Colombia) – a transdisciplinary experimental and creative laboratory – has a dual presence at the fair in collaboration with the Nukak Community and Javier Navarro, participating in both the General Program and the Curated Program titled Wametisé: Ideas for an Amazofuturism, curated by Denilson Baniwa and María Wills, which focuses is on the creation of the world and the assignment of territories. They present their latest production, La vorágine más allá: Macharoko (2024), a mosaic of linocuts, drawings and a video piece.
Finally, in the backroom section, Rolf Art presents works by Verónica Meloni (1974, Argentina), installations made with boleadoras from the series ‘Dibujos de fuerza’ (2020-2022) – recently acquired by the Museo Centro CA2M – in dialogue with a selection of photographs from the historic series ‘La Conquista’ (1991) – recently acquired by MoMA – resulting from the collaboration between Marcos Lopez (1958) & RES (1957), Adriana Miranda (1969), and the archive of Liliana Maresca (1951-1994).
