ABSENCE/PRESENCE. LATINX AND LATIN AMERICAN ARTISTS IN DIALOGUE | ANOTHER SPACE

Con un enfoque descolonizador, Absence/Presence presenta obras de 36 artistas del Caribe, Centroamérica y Sudamérica, así como artistas de ascendencia latinoamericana / caribeña nacidos o residentes en EE. UU. Desafiando las representaciones convencionales de la identidad latinoamericana y latina, la exposición examina el sistema de ausencia forzada y presencia condicional, así como una historia de presencia creativa y poética más allá de las restricciones sociales. Además de documentar la violencia y la opresión, Absence/Presence destaca el legado compartido de activismo político, experimentación artística y búsqueda de futuros alternativos y descolonizados de los artistas participantes.

Taking a decolonizing approach, Absence/Presence presents works by 36 artists from the Caribbean, Central and South America, as well as artists of Latin American/Caribbean descent born or residing in the U.S. Challenging conventional representations of Latinx and Latin American identity, the exhibition examines the system of forced absence and conditional presence, as well as a history of creative and poetic presence beyond societal restrictions. In addition to documenting violence and oppression, Absence/Presence highlights the participating artists’ shared legacy of political activism, artistic experimentation, and their search for alternative, decolonized futures.
